Get to know the Bosana
Bosana is the most iconic cultivar in Sardinia’s north. It’s medium in size, slightly oval, and ripens slowly — usually from November to December. When picked early and pressed quickly, it produces oil with a vibrant taste and high polyphenol levels. This variety has been grown on the island for centuries. Its resilience and strong character reflect the land it comes from: windy, sun-baked, and full of life.
RECOMMENDATION
The maximum expression is found by using it in its raw state, on salads or in a vinaigrette
Meet the Fois family
The Fois family has been growing olives near Alghero, in northwestern Sardinia, since 1890. Here, the sea breeze, gentle winters, and sunlit hills create a landscape where olives thrive. Today, their olive groves stretch over 300 hectares and hold more than 30,000 trees, primarily of the Bosana variety.
At the heart of their work is a balance between tradition and innovation. In their modern mill, the family uses advanced extraction techniques to capture the true character of their olives while keeping quality at its highest. Sustainability is woven into this process: solar energy helps power production, and even the pits of the olives are given new life, used to heat water rather than go to waste.
The result is an extra virgin olive oil that carries the flavor of Sardinia and the identity of the land it comes from. Today, the Fois family is proud to be the island’s leading producer of certified DOP Extra Virgin Olive Oil — a mark not only of quality, but of the deep connection between their work and the place they call home.
